Purpose

Chinese Workwear Heritage is a visual archive devoted to old Chinese work clothes: factory uniforms, blue cotton jackets, padded coats, trousers, caps, and the anonymous garments worn through ordinary working days.

The project does not begin with nostalgia as a product. It studies material, construction, repair, wear, and the changing relationship between clothing and labor. Faded cloth, altered seams, repeated washing, and personal modifications are treated as records of use.

By gathering these garments and their contexts, the archive looks for the quiet character of an era without turning it into costume. The aim is to preserve evidence, encourage close looking, and keep practical clothing connected to the lives that shaped it.
